Sold, specs or it didn't happen. Did you spend ~$3k?

      Intel Core i7-3930K @ 4,5Ghz
      Thermalright Silver Arrow
      ASUS P9X79
      4x 8GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz
      nVidia Quadro 600

~2k euro. Purely a 3ds max workstation, hence the Quadro 600. 2000 was out of my financial reach unfortunately.

      edit
Cost includes drives, case and PSU of course, but that is always personal preference. No SSD though.

How did this turn out for you?

          Ok, the workstation was assembled!!
Now i'm waiting for a GTX670 with a problem, no signal video, redelivered in RMA to the vendor! Will he return one new graphic card to me next week!
For now the workstation is magic!I'm very impressed!
In this day i'll make some test and after i'll make the overclock of processor 3930K.

          Stay tuned for result!!

            Hi to all!!
After some time with the new workstation...i say that i'm very happy for the purchase!
Usually i use vrayRT version for make a realtime preview during the set up of the scene, and i think this couple of GTX 670 4GB will stay with me some years at least...they load many poligons and texture without problems!!
Unfortunately for now Vray RT GPU version is a bit immature compared to the standard version or RT CPU version, and then for now i can't use it very much with my works, but i'm really optimist for next release.

The other components are another world, compared to my (now second) pc, I7 960!

For now i've overclocked the new I7 3930K only up to 4Ghz because last month was very hot in italy.....and i'm not used with the liquid cooler!
In the spare time, i will try to perform other tests for obtain a good saving of render time!

If you have some test to compare the performance...just ask!!

Can you tell me which features are the most important for your work?

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Hi Vlado, as main things come to my mind::
                  - Color correction map not supported
                  - Material output settings not supported
                  - Vray material wrapper not supported
                  - Vray proxy inside containers is supported?

It would also be very useful to have a better transferring SD tree to cuda devices process and building SDTree for gpu process, because having GPU with 4GB vram this loading process takes several minutes if i use all the vram; but I don't know if this is possible. (With version CPU is much faster)

                  I've posted another thing here!

If i'll have another things, i will update this thread!

                    3DKodo,
Can you post a benchmark or two? I'm building a new machine this week. Anything you would have done differently? I'm going most of the same components you have and was wondering if you've had any problems or would have done things slightly differently?

Btw, this works, but you need to enable the "X-Ref scenes and containers" option in the V-Ray RT settings.

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado

                        I'm buying a new computer, 2 questions:

Mobo: Are you happy with the motherboard? I'm thinking about the Rampage IV here, but maybe it's too crazy?
                        http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131802

RE4 HDs: You have 2x of them for 220Euro, is that each or for both?

Case: How is it? Big enough? Easy install? Good peripherals?

Can you do some kind of benchmark to show the difference from your 920 to the new machine?

Post your overclock voltages if you don't mind, and blk frequencies.
